This is an actual Tweet from the National
Republican Congressional Committee:
The amount of platinum needed to mint a coin worth $1 trillion would sink the Titanic nrcc.org/spending twitter.com/NRCC/status/28…

This is how they think currency works. I hope they
never find out that pennies
are actually 97.5% zinc.
This sort of thing is exactly why I refuse to participate in Twitter. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteADD is a bitch, however...
ReplyDeleteThis:
“The Titanic had 19672 tons (66000 tons - 46328 tons) of extra displacement capacity.” (source: http://www.chacha.com/question/what-was-the-displacement-of-the-titanic-when-fully-loaded)
And this admittedly unscientifically tallied set of figures:
$ 1590.00 x 16 oz = $ 25,440.00/lb
$ 25,440. x 2K lb = $ 50,880,000.00/ton
$1,000,000,000,000 / $50,880,000 = 19,654.09 Ton
Would tend to indicate that the Titanic, when it hit the iceberg could have been carrying $1T worth of platinum at today’s “spot metal price”, with about 18 tons of excess capacity or enough to carry numerous of the crankier members of the SKKKrotalMurKKKinPatriotiKKK Front.
So, as usual, the GOP is fullashit.
